Honour Thy Father

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Exodus 20:12

Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

TODAY’S MESSAGE:

Sunday was Father’s Day and social media was flooded with posts of praise to our fathers, accompanied by cute photos of us as children, snuggled into the man who made us feel loved and safe in the world.

But what about those who did not have loving fathers? How can they honour him? Or must they?

The issue is so important to God that it is one of the Ten Commandments. Honouring your father is honouring God, because God created the role of a father. Honouring your father is not based on whether he deserves it, but respecting the authority that God has given him. If your father failed to live up to this role, you must find it in your heart to forgive him.

Some fathers did the best they could, and others were of questionable character, but the Bible tells is that anyone who dishonours their father or mother is cursed.

God hears our fathers’ prayers or us, now let us pray for our fathers.
